About Community Arts Teams (CATs)
Arts for LA develops Community Arts Teams throughout Los Angeles County. Goals of CAT teams include:
- Developing and empowering local leadership for arts and culture
- Increasing community awareness of and support for arts and culture
- Increasing the visibility of community support to local policymakers and educating them about arts issues in their communities
- Developing a sustainable model for stakeholders throughout Los Angeles County to voice support for the arts and increase cultural infrastructure within their city or community
About Arts Education Advocacy Teams
The Arts Education Advocacy Teams are part of a pilot program developed by Arts for LA and launched in partnership with Arts for All, a regional arts education initiative led by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.
These Advocacy Teams are an effective way of engaging a broad group of arts stakeholders—parents, community members, educators, and artists to name a few—in developing meaningful arts education programs across the county. As part of an Advocacy Team, members help their local school district or municipality implement and strengthen its arts education programs.
We know that arts programs with robust support thrive. Advocacy Teams help make sure arts education reaches and serves all students, that the arts are valued as an essential part of a complete education.
Five Advocacy Teams are hard at work in the Burbank, Culver City, Santa Monica-Malibu, Montebello, and Paramount school districts. There are plans to add Advocacy Teams in as many as ten more districts and cities in the coming year.
