Tap Into the World of Media Arts While Exploring Your Own Creative Voice
Five-day Tuition Free Retreat*
*The James Irvine Foundation generously funds this retreat, including tuition, meals and housing for the twelve teachers selected to participate.
The Otis Summer 2011 K-12 Teacher Retreat: Media Arts will provide teachers with in depth media arts skills and integration strategies for arts, math, science and humanities curricula. This five-day intensive retreat is designed to reinvigorate educators teaching practices while expanding their art and design skill-set through a series of media arts workshops, presentations and a field trip. With a cadre of instructors who are experts in their field and access to state of the art facilities, participants will collaborate in small groups and develop short documentary/narrative videos.
The retreat includes:
• teachers working collaboratively in small teams to develop short videos that present a collective point of view on an issue or subject
• integration and student assessment discussions
• a speaker series with experts in the field
• a field trip to reDiscover
• each teacher participant will deliver a 20-minute presentation to the group on something that they are interested in (this could be about your own research and creative practice, influences and inspirations, teaching experiences, school and/or district initiatives, highlights of student work, best teaching practices, etc.)
Tuition, meals and housing are provided at no cost to participants through a competitive application process.
Who is eligible to apply?
CA Credentialed Teachers of all subjects
CA K12 Teaching artists and designers in all disciplines
Priority will be given to ConnectEd Arts/Media/Entertainment Pilot Teachers
Salary point credits are available to local school district teachers
*Applicants must be available to attend the full week and it is preferred that they stay in the housing provided (single rooms at the Custom Hotel located one block from Otis).
