Robert E. Kennedy Library, Cal Poly State University
San Luis Obispo, CA
We invite California-based artists to submit proposals for a new mural that will serve as a visual cornerstone of the Robert E. Kennedy Library on the campus of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, which is undergoing a major renovation and is scheduled to reopen in the Fall of 2025.
The wide lobby at the main entrance to the Kennedy Library includes a long concrete wall, a blank expanse that presents a remarkable opportunity for a significant mural that explores the Kennedy Library’s vital placemaking function, where the natural beauty and cultural history of the region are shared and treasured, and where discipline-based scholarship is located and used.
A distinctive mural in the Kennedy Library will reflect the library as a foundational place, where knowledge and personal interests can be expanded and elevated. The overarching purpose of this mural is to set the tone for every visitor’s experience, acting as a point of transition that reflects the polyvalent and active opportunities within the Library.
